About Us

A Vision of Faith, Medicine, and Compassion for Tanzania

FOUNDERS

Dr. Mark & Sharon Winkler

FOUNDER

Dr. Barnabas Mtokambali

In 1987, God planted a dream in the hearts of Dr. Mark and Sharon Winkler: a vision to see Africa impacted by compassionate medical care. As neighbors in the Graduate Housing at Oral Roberts University, Mark and Sharon discovered that they were both called separately to serve at a small medical center in Swaziland (Eswatini) South Africa—where they later went as newlyweds for a short term medical mission. Mark received training at the In-His-Image Family Medicine Residency at City of Faith in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the same time Dr. Barnabas Mtokambali, DMin, was starting his spiritual outreach to a small community in Morogoro, Tanzania. This thriving church campus now includes a medical clinic.

Trusting God, Dr. Mtokambali and the Winklers separately embarked on their journeys to combine faith and medicine. In 2024 their vision merged and gave birth to Paraclete International Medical Outreach (P.I.M.O.), a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming Tanzanian lives through accessible, compassionate, Christian medical care plus spiritual outreach—eventually to all regions of Tanzania.

At P.I.M.O. we believe in Whole Person healing—transforming lives physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our goal is to bring hope and restoration to underserved communities across Tanzania by addressing medical needs with excellence and compassion, while also fulfilling the Biblical Great Commission by sharing the lifechanging message of Jesus Christ. As General Superintendent of the Tanzania Assembly of God (T.A.G.), Dr. Mtokambali oversees 17,000 local T.A.G. churches. These congregations have workers and many Christian professionals—doctors, nurse practitioners, midwives, pharmacists, therapists and others—who are excited to work at the projected 31 full-service Uzima Hospital Health Centers to be built across Tanzania in the next 10 years, as funding allows. Each Uzima hospital will include a maternity ward with C-section capability, Also Outpatient, Inpatient, Emergency, ICU, Dental, Vision, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, and Community Health resources.

Guided by God’s call and a commitment to compassionate care, P.I.M.O. will impact countless lives. We invite you to join us in this mission of love, service, and Whole Person healing as we fulfill the dream God placed in our hearts over three decades ago.
